Silver & Blue: A J7 Holiday Story
by Saffron © 2005
Seven entered the captain's quarters and came to a dead stop. Lights were at half and in the corner of the room was a coniferous tree. A pseudotsuga menziesii to be exact, which was illuminated with small blue lights and metallic silver balls. Placed carefully at its base were several packages, wrapped with silver and blue paper, that covered something that looked like a blue skirt. Mesmerized, she moved slowly towards the tree to get a closer look. In her intense examination, she failed to be aware of Kathryn slipping behind her. Seven jumped when she felt slender arms encircle her waist. "Merry Christmas," murmured the older woman.
Seven slipped out Kathryn's loving arms and turned to face her. "Christmas."
"Yes. You know what Christmas is, don't you?"
"Then why do you look so stunned? I wanted to surprise you, but you look a little bewildered."
"You did this for me?"
Kathryn pressed her lips lightly again Seven's full mouth. "Yes, my love. I wanted our first Christmas together to be special."
Seven's eyes glistened with unshed tears as she turned her head and moved away.
"Seven?" Kathryn wanted to reach out touch the young woman, but instead clasped her hands in front of her. "What's wrong?" She watched as Seven wiped her eyes, still facing away from the captain.
"My last Christmas was aboard the Raven with my parents."
A disquieting silence floated between them as Kathryn tried to think of something to say.
"Was it bad?"
Seven turn around and smiled one of those rare smiles as her face held a rueful expression. "No. It wasn't. My parents made it a wonderful Christmas. I just didn't anyone would do that for me again."
Blinking away her tears, Kathryn pressed her fingers against her lips to keep them from trembling. Without another word, she went and picked up a small box from beneath the tree.
She walked toward Seven until only the box was between them. Kathryn stared down at the box in her hand as she spoke. "You changed my life, Seven. Before, my life, outside of being captain of Voyager, was one big void full of darkness, loneliness and at times, quite desolate." Kathryn looked up into pale blue eyes that glisten at her. "You began to fill that void before I even realized it. And when I realized it, I didn't believe it. I didn't trust it." A grin tugged at the corner of her mouth. "I didnt trust you. But you trusted me. You gave me your heart before I was ready to take care of it. I hurt you..." Kathryn cleared her throat. "...and apologize for that." Kathryn opened the box and pulled out a necklace. After she placed the box on a nearby table, she cradled the necklace in her hands as she offered it to Seven. "So now," she whispered, her voice full of warmth and love, "I give you my heart."
Seven took the necklace from Kathryn's hands and examined it. It was a 50.8 centimeter navy blue cord that held an imperfectly shaped heart. Perplexed, she looked at Kathryn.
Aware of the question in her lover's mind, Kathryn chuckled. "Its representative, Seven."
Kathryn watched as Seven studied the gift, amazed at the seriousness of her expression. "Do you like it?"
"Yes. And I accept."
Kathryn smiled and gently took the necklace from Seven's find. "Here. Let me put this on you." Kathryn stepped closer until she was breath away as her hand slipped behind Seven's head to fasten the necklace, but didn't removed her arms when she was done. "There. All finished."
Kathryn buried her face in Seven's soft bosom and inhaled. "I love you, Annika."
She smiled as Seven's grip tightened around her waist. Kathryn looked up and pulled the woman's head toward her and kissed her as ardor flamed through her. She pulled back and stared at the necklace, nestled at the hollow of Seven's neck. "You know what would make that necklace look even better."
"If that was the only thing you were wearing."
Kathryn took Seven's hand and led her toward the bedroom. "I think I'd like to unwrap MY present now."
