Kathryn fastened the last pip on to her dress uniform.

She studied her worn features.  She would be married in a hour. A strange calm spread through her.

She reached down and picked up a small jewelry box and opened it. Chakotay's wedding band. A plain white gold band.

She slipped on the ring finger of her left hand then immediately took it off. She close her fingers around it and closed her eyes.

She imagined Chakotay standing before her as she placed the ring on his finger.

She opened her eyes and quickly put the ring back in its box.

Now, she was nervous.
