Side-stepping the issue
"Am I fat?" asked Kathryn as she squinted at her reflection, her hand smoothing her uniform over her swollen belly.
There was no answer from the other side of the room.
She turned around and watch Chakotay as he busied himself making the bed, pretending he didn't hear her. "Well?" she said a little louder.
Chakotay picked up the pillow he had just moved and sighed. "Kathryn..."
Kathryn turned her back on him. "Never mind. If you have to wait that long to answer, I don't want..."
She stopped talking when she felt something soft hit her on the back. She looked at the floor behind her. It was the pillow Chakotay had been holding.
Struggling slightly, Kathryn slowly reach down and picked up the pillow then, as she turned to face him, another pillow hit her in the face.
She smiled that crooked, playful grin that always melted his heart. "It never ceases to amaze me what you'll do to avoid answering a question."
